What to post and what not to post..?

it's great to see so many of you contributing and clearing each others queries. We feel we can make it look even better with a little more effort. Here are a few points we would like to share with you that can help us create a good post. We have decided to come up with some guidelines that would help you take a better decision, although you will still have to rely on your instinct.

1) General

    Do's
  • Subject line : Ex. Opening for a post-doc, Conference: ISMB 11 dates announced, query: Problem with Perl code etc.
  • Mention Original Source (Reference) : Ex. courtesy: Nature.
  • Don't
  • Don't Post "Copyright documents".
  • Don't Post "Personal blogs, websites, Google/ yahoo group pages in the message board".
  • Don't Post "Unrelated mails and unacceptable texts".
  • Don't Post "Hate mails or mail contains derogatory texts".

2) Conference

    Do's
  • Conference related to Bioinformatics/Computational Biology.
  • Conference within India.
  • International Conference with travel fellowship for Indian students.
  • Don't
  • Not related to Bioinforamtics.
  • May be not really important to Indian students.
  • More than 2 conferences in a single day.
  • Conferences, which are just a few days away.
  • Workshops conducted by private training centers.

3) Open positions

    Do's
  • Position related to bioinformatics
  • Don't
  • Positions not related to Bioinformatics.
  • Positions for senior researchers like Group leaders etc.
  • Positions not applicable for Indians
  • Positions without funding.

4) Articles

    Do's
  • Article related to Bioinformatics, computational Biology and related science.
  • Don't
  • Articles that might not of much importance to a Bioinformatics researcher.
  • Articles with less scientific value and more fun quotient.
  • Certain Blogs and controversial articles can be excluded if they do not have a rich scientific content.

5) Courses/Internships

    Do's
  • Course/Internships offered on merit basis.
  • Bioinformatics Internship without fees
  • Don't
  • Courses offered by private training centres.
  • Internships offered with a certain amount of fees.
  • Courses/internships that are offered by Universities/research centres in other countries with no provision of fellowships for Indian students.

6) Queries

    Do's
  • A new post for every new query.
  • Post your queries and in case it goes unanswered, please go ahead and send a reminder.
  • Don't
  • Do not reply to an existing discussion and put your new queries.

7) Miscellaneous

    Do's
  • Scholarship positions meant for Indian students.
  • Don't
  • Scholarship positions not meant for Indian students.
  • Servers and tools that are not open source and hence individuals cannot use.
